“If you want happiness for a lifetime - help the next generation.”
Meet Mrs. Giselle Lopez McAllister, MSW
Mrs. McAllister is a native of sunny South Florida and happily joined GSD in the fall of 2009 as the school's social worker.
She attended both Florida International University (FIU) and Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida, where she obtained her Bachelor of Social Work degree in 2006 and was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. She then went on to Gallaudet University in Washington, DC for her degree of Master in Social Work.
In addition to her academic studies, Mrs. McAllister also attended ballet school from an early age, as well as drama classes and also worked as a child model. She participated in numerous fund raising activities for her community and her church by way of her dancing talent and was a recipient of several dance scholarships. She has been featured on local and national television programs and a magazine representing a positive role model for the deaf.
She worked as a Youth Camp Counselor in South Florida for deaf and disabled children during the summers as a teenager and later as a young adult, an activity she enjoyed as much as the children.
Her love of children was instrumental in her choosing a career in Social Work, where she believes she can make a positive difference in their lives and encourage them to reach their full potential.
Mrs. McAllister welcomes communication with both her students and their parents and firmly believes that the best weapon in the fight for a child is having faith along with lots of love and encouragement.
